Starts on the Date/Time - Jan 13 2016 - 10:00 am - 11:00 am
In this class we will use JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books to examine the stages of the Hero’s Journey, or monomyth, as described by mythologist Joseph Campbell. The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of storytelling that regularly occurs in the lives of heroes in myths from cultures all over the world, and JK Rowling masterfully echoes ancient myth in stories about Harry Potter and his friends. Each class will focus on a specific step of the hero’s journey, and assigned readings from the Harry Potter series will be used to illustrate each step of the journey.
Prerequisites: Each student should have read the Harry Potter series all the way through at least once, preferably twice.
