On Sunday, November 9th, Global #gtchat Powered by the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented will join with Gifted Homeschoolers Forum via a Twitter chat to celebrate their 10th Anniversary. Our guest will be Corin Goodwin, Executive Director of GHF.
It was with great foresight that Corin and her early supporters decided to form Gifted Homeschoolers Forum. What started at a kitchen table has now developed into a community with global reach. One has to wonder if that small group of parents 10 years ago could have envisioned what Gifted Homeschoolers Forum has become today. It is a phenomenal resource for all homeschoolers with a depth and breadth of opportunities unrivaled in the homeschooling arena.
Over the past three years, it has been an honor and pleasure to work with GHF to move the conversation forward in support of gifted and twice-exceptional children. We have shared the introduction of GHF brochures for educators and healthcare professionals, had authors of new titles at GHF Press as guests and previewed new offerings at GHF Online. It has proven to be of mutual benefit to both #gtchat participants and members of Gifted Homeschoolers Forum.
During this week’s chat we will contemplate why so many families with gifted children have decided to homeschool their children. Once the domain primarily of those seeking to include religious instruction in their children’s education; homeschooling is now a relevant and consequential option for many who are seeking an alternative to traditional schooling that challenges their child’s intellectual needs while also accommodating their social and emotional needs. It has become the ultimate form of individualized instruction and a model of education emulated by many in the larger education community.
Beyond the day-to-day resources offered on their website, GHF also provides much needed information for professionals working with gifted children in all areas of their lives. This has greatly benefited the gifted community at large including parents, educators, school counselors, physicians and psychologists.
Join us at Global #gtchat Powered by TAGT on Twitter on Sunday at 4 PM ET and 1 PM PT to learn more about GHF and to share in the celebration of the first ten years of service to the gifted and homeschooling communities, as well as to take a look to the future. A full transcript will be made available following the chat and a weekly blog post at #gtchat’s Blog will include a brief summary and links provided during the chat.
