And We Shall Remember

By Coco Farrell, age 12 1/2

We have lost.
It was a glorious defeat,
But we lost the battle,
We may have won the war,
But losing even one battle,
So many lives, so many deaths.

And as the wind blows,
Tears are washed away,
For we shall fight again,
Another day, another battle,
A new war, and so many lives,
Are lost, lost to the war, lost to death.

Lives that could have been long,
Lives that could be long and full,
Trained for war, and lost to it,
Lost to battle, lost to death.

There is honor and glory,
In dying in honorable battle,
But so many lives, so many deaths,
Are lost, lost to us, lost to the wars.

So many have died,
Losing their lives in battle,
And now they are lost, lost to us,
Lost to their families and friends,
Lost to those who loved them.

We may win every battle,
But so many lives shall be lost,
As we fight, we shall die,
Lost to us, lost to the wars,
Lost to battle, lost to death,

And in the night,
Under the full moon,
We shall remember the wars,
And the lives that were lost,
Fighting in them.
We shall remember,
Those who were lost in death.
