Corin Barsily Goodwin, Executive Director

Corin Barsily Goodwin homeschools her own two 2e children, and commutes between the Silicon Valley in CA and rural southern Oregon. She co-chaired the Legislative Committee for the HomeSchool Association of California and was their Gifted/Special Needs Advisor. Before children, Ms. Goodwin worked in economic analysis while attending Georgetown University's Graduate Public Policy Program. She does consulting and has been presenting workshops on gifted and homeschool related issues for many years. Her articles have been seen in 2e Newsletter, the NAGC UK magazine, California HomeSchooler, SENG Update, and other publications. Ms. Goodwin also serves on the SENG Editorial Board, and is hard at work on a variety of writing projects with co-author Mika Gustavson. Debbie Schwarzer, General Counsel

Debbie Schwarzer lives in the Bay Area with her husband and two gifted boys, who have homeschooled from the beginning. She has been very active with the HomeSchool Association of California (HSC), previously serving on its Board and currently as its Legal Chair and head of the Legislative Committee. Ms. Schwarzer worked extensively on the In Re Rachel L case, which was the 2008 case decided by the appellate court in Southern California relating to homeschooling.  She played a major role in coordinating the efforts of state-wide and national homeschool groups and the law firms that were donating their time pro bono, including Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, where she had previously been a partner. She participated in the production of the brief on legal issues relating to homeschooling in California that the court found persuasive and took a significant role in writing another amicus curiae brief submitted for the rehearing of that case, this one focusing on the efficacy of homeschooling and of its benefits for particular populations of children. She remains a practicing corporate lawyer with GCA Law Partners LLP on a part-time basis. See Ms. Schwarzer's GCA bio.

Brandy Taylor, Business Director

Brandy Taylor homeschools her three gifted children in San Jose, California. Prior to having children, Ms. Taylor spent seven years with the Wilmington Savings Fund Society. She has extensive experience managing fundraisers for non-profit organizations such as Cupertino Co-Op Nursery School and the regional Girl Scouts of the USA.

Anne Beneventi, Professional Outreach Coordinator

Anne Beneventi has a lifelong passion for working with gifted children. She taught for several years at Nueva School for the gifted and co-founded two schools for gifted children.  She trained for many years with a leading authority on gifted children, Annemarie Roeper. In 2002 she was certified as a Master Practitioner of Qualitative Assessment for Giftedness. She currently has a private practice evaluating children for giftedness and consulting with families and schools to provide appropriate educational and emotional support for gifted children.  She is also on the staff of the Gifted Development Center’s Oakland Testing Clinic.
