Justin M. Schwamm, Jr., Latin Instructor and Director of Online Classes for GHF, helps Latin learners and teachers make breakthroughs in language proficiency through participation in a “joyful learning community” of other learners and teachers. He received his BA in Classical Languages, summa cum laude, from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, completed a teacher certification program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then taught Latin in public schools in southeastern North Carolina for 22 years. His “physical world” classes became particularly popular with gifted and twice-exceptional learners, especially those from underserved and under-identified groups.
Justin established the “GHF Latin Family” in 2014 and is deeply grateful to work with the “joyful learning communities” that form quickly in GHF Online Latin classes. He is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences for Latin teachers, with a focus on innovative curriculum, teaching practices, and assessment, and has served on the Joint Task Force on Teacher Training and Certification under the auspices of the American Classical League and the American Philological Association/Society for Classical Studies. In 2008, he founded the Tres Columnae Project, an online Latin curriculum cleverly disguised as a fan-fiction writing community and role-playing story-world. In addition to his work with GHF, Justin provides private and small-group Latin instruction and leads small mastermind-format coaching groups for teachers who want to develop “joyful learning communities” in their own schools and classrooms.
